Bandar Seri Begawan - National team point guard Choo Yung Jian was the hero of Easyway/ Sia & Tang basketball team when his last-gasp lay-up won the Aewon Cup 2011 Championship for his team against 'D' Babes/Sharks basketball team 71-69 in an epic final.

Easyway/Sia & Tang led by three points with just 10 seconds left on the clock but a three-point shot from Castro of' 'D' Babes/Sharks tied the score at 69 a piece with just 2.3 seconds left.

While 'D' Babes/Sharks were still celebrating the shot, Choo then rushed down the court and put in the lay-up just in the nick of time.

After the match, Choo said: "It was a very tight game. I just try my luck and risk it. And we finally won the game."

Coach Reece of Easyway/Sia & Tang said: "Hats off to the team, they didn't give up the whole game. For many years, this is the first time that a Brunei team has actually won the cup."

"Last year we didn't make it this far. The 12 players in the team did it. It's now their moment." Reece added.

The American coach also conveyed his appreciation to the local fans and the sponsors of Easyway and Sia & Tang who have tremendously helped the development of basketball in Brunei.

After the tip off, it was Easyway who put on a 10-2 run to take an early lead but D' Babes/Sharks slowly crawled back to close the gap at 16-13 in the first quarter.

Easyway held on to their slim lead in the second quarter before heading to the locker room with only two points separating the teams at 35-33.

After the 10-minute interval, Easyway extended their lead to 55-49 by the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Choo of Easyway/Sia & Tang has the final say by netting the final points to win the Aewon Cap for his team.

The guest-of-honour who presented the prizes to the winners was Hj Jamain bin Momin, the Brunei Muara District Officer.

Meanwhile, third place went to Bulit Ladang after beating MK 85-77.
