Michael Fassbender Dishes on 'Prometheus' Character on day true story
Ever since the trailer hit a few months back, excitement over Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" is at a fever-pitch. The director is very protective of everything concerning the film. He hasn't spilled much on how tied to the "Alien" series the movie is or what type of characters each actor is playing. Charlize Theron gave us an idea who she is playing in "Prometheus." Recently, Michael Fassbender opened up about his character, simply named David, in the prequel to "Alien."
Apparently Fassbender felt it was safe to let everyone in on his role in "Prometheus" after Empire Magazine posted a new image from the film and called him "a paranoid android" in the caption. InSight Magazine recently asked Fassbender what he could tell readers about the new sci-fi epic.
"It's the must-see film of 2012!" the actor exclaimed. "I play the humanoid android. The first thing that struck me was a good script. [It was a] really intelligent script. [It's] a real thriller. [It has] real anticipation. The first 'Alien' had that. The atmosphere was thick. You knew that something was going to happen. Which is very rare that you can read that in a script."
It sounds like Fassbender is playing a role similar to that of Ian Holm in "Alien" and Lance Henriksen in "Aliens" and "Alien3." Holm's Ash in the original film ended up an artificial bad guy. Henriksen's fabricated Bishop was Ripley's ally in the sequels. Fassbender didn't give details as to whether he's an evil android or a good one. All we know right now is he's "paranoid."
Fassbender spoke very highly of his time spent with Scott on "Prometheus." He couldn't stop gushing over the opportunity to work with the brilliant filmmaker.
"Ridley Scott is the master," Fassbender said. "He's amazing. [It's] really something else to watch him work. [You get to see] his attention to detail. [You get to experience] his mischievousness [and] his playfulness … no idea is stupid for him. He'll let you bring it to the floor and have a go at it. I really, really enjoyed working with him … And of course the cast."
Along with Fassbender and Theron, "Prometheus" stars Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, and Sean Harris. John Spaihts ("The Darkest Hour") and Damon Lindelof ("Lost") wrote the script. Cinematographer Dariusz Wolski (the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films) shot the movie in 3D. It hits theaters on June 8, 2012.
