Forecast: Two weather systems to impact the region this week - Chicago Weather on day true story
After heavy lake effect snow associated with an arctic front dumped over a foot of snow across northern Indiana and southwest Lower Michigan Friday-Saturday, as many as two weather systems are forecasted to impact the region this week.
The first of the two as I mentioned in my previous article will be primarily a snow producer moving into the region from the southwest later this evening (between 6 and 7pm) and lasting through early Tuesday morning.
This first system is broad, impacting a vast amount of the central U.S. with snow and/or ice. As many as 12 states across the central U.S. are under either a winter weather advisory or a winter storm warning.
As far as snow accumulations, this storm system will produce a widespread swath of 1-3" across the Chicago metro area with the heavier amounts likely to fall south.
We will get a slight reprieve from the weather Tuesday through Wednesday afternoon before our second storm system arrives Wednesday evening.
This second system will be warmer than the first as it is expected to arrive with rain Wednesday evening. Colder air will filter in on the backside of the system resulting in rain changing over to some light snow showers Thursday morning before departing Thursday afternoon.
