Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts to play mother and daughter

The Weinstein Company announced Wednesday that Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts will star together in a & film adaptation of the play "August: Osage County."

The play, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2008, is a dark comedy & that takes place in the three-story home of Beverly Weston and his wife, Violet, & a dysfunction mother whom Streep will play.

Roberts will play the role of Violet's eldest daughter, Barbara, who is & working to save her marriage with her husband, Bill.

The film's casting of Streep and Roberts has been speculated upon as early as & 2010, but had not been confirmed by the studio until this week.

This will be the first film in which the two actresses will appear on the big & screen together.

Roberts expressed enthusiasm towards working with Streep, saying in a & statement, "After seeing Meryl Streep's mesmerizing portrayal as Margaret & Thatcher in 'The Iron Lady,' it has me even more excited and proud to co-star & with her."

"August: Osage County" is set for release in 2013.

I just saw Iron Lady---Ms. Streep WAS Ms. Thatcher no doubt in my mind this talented woman can do anything -It was like reliving history--as for Ms. Roberts her talent and personality shine thru

I agree. I absolutely hate Julia Roberts as an actress and just adore Meryl Streep. Julia Roberts lacks depth in every character she has played. On the other hand, Meryl gets better with each role she plays. If I go to the movie it will be to see Meryl only.

'Won't see it....Loved the book 'Eat, Love, Pray' hated the movie - Roberts lack depth in any role and moves me away from the story in any movie I have seen her....too bad Streep is cast alongside - She is believable in everything!
