NBA All-Star Game 2012 : One-on-One Challenge Would Make Game Exciting Again on day true story

The NBA All-Star Game and All-Star Weekend used to be my favorite to watch of any major sport.

The dunk competition was fun and original, the three-point competition was something I'd always dreamed of doing myself and the All-Star game itself was like watching a Warriors/Suns game in the late 2000's.  Let's look at what the NBA has scheduled this year followed by my big idea for a change.

Sprint NBA All-Star Celebrity Game

This is a fun little game that I think continue to be a part of the festivities.  It's a nod to pop culture and a treat for the fans (and the celebrities themselves).  It's not too long and it takes me back to the Rock n' Jock Softball games on MTV.

NBA Rising Stars Challenge

The game is basically the All-Star game for rookies and sophomores.  I don't dislike this event because it gives fans an opportunity to see players they haven't heard that much about.  In addition it gives guys buried on the bench a chance to shine.  Here's an idea—make the shot clock 16 seconds.  This game is a great chance for the NBA to try out new ideas.

Haier Shooting Stars

Would a One on One Tournament Make You Watch NBA All-Star Weekend?

Would a One on One Tournament Make You Watch NBA All-Star Weekend?

  • I would watch because of the tournament

  • I would watch no matter what

  • I won't watch

This event is terrible and needs to be scrapped.  The reason I watch the NBA All-Star festivities is to see NBA players.  I don't want to see "legends" or WNBA players competing, especially in this kind of contest.  Dump it.

Taco Bell Skills Challenge

While I truly enjoy watching the NHL skills challenge, this one is no fun.  A way we could make it better is to make it more simple.  Who is the fastest in a sprint?  Who is the fastest with the ball?  Who has the best vertical?  Wouldn't that be more fun?

Foot Locker Three-Point Challenge

Another event that was fun at one point but has run its course.  I'd rather have them pick kids at random and give them a chance to win a million dollars or something.

Sprite Slam Dunk Contest

Originality has suffered quite a bit, although the entertainment value was high last year with the show Griffin put on.  There just isn't enough to do anymore and it's become quite boring.  Why not add a defender?  We could call it the Slam or Get Slammed Challenged or something like that.  Wouldn't you enjoy Griffin running full speed at DeAndre Jordan trying to dunk it?

NBA All-Star Game

The game is fine as is.  It's fun, it's exciting, and the players usually have surprises in store for all of us.  I do wish there was more incentive to win but I enjoy a 145-140 highlight fest from time to time.

We Should Replace All-Star Saturday Night With A One on One Tournament!

Who doesn't want to see LeBron vs. Durant in a one-on-one setting?  To make it fair there could be three different tournaments (guards, forwards, centers) because we do want it to be competitive.

The All-Stars could play each game to 11, make it take it, against other All-Stars.  Want the legends to be involved?  They could have their own tournament!  Who wouldn't love to see Jordan or Barkley back out there again?

Players have a lot of pride and would really try hard to win.  I think this would spur the most discussion, would be the most exciting, and would make me want to watch every year.
