Virgin America Adds Steve Jobs Quote to Plane | News & Opinion on day true story
The number of individuals and companies paying homage to Steve Jobs continues to grow. Nearly four months after Jobs died, Virgin America has branded a plane in honor the late Apple co-founder, MacRumors has learned.
& &The plane, an Airbus A320, is stamped with the now-famous line, "stay hungry, stay foolish," taken from Jobs's 2005 commencement address at Stanford University.
& &A Virgin America spokesperson explained to PCMag how the Jobs tribute plane came to be.
& &"The 'Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish' aircraft name was acutally submitted as a tribute to Mr. Jobs by one of our employees in an internal plane naming competition we ran for our company teammates here in the fall of 2011," the rep said.
& &Virgin America is the only Silicon Valley-based airline. The new plane went into service towards the end of 2011.
& &Jobs's passing has prompted all kinds of tributes. Earlier this month, Chinese company In Icons was marketing an eerily lifelike Steve Jobs action figure. However, the company was forced to stop the sale and production of the toy because of the threat of legal action from Apple.
& &Additionally, two Jobs-centered comic books have popped up recently. About two weeks ago, publisher Bluewater Productions released "Steve Jobs: Founder of Apple," a 32-page take on Jobs's entire career. However, because it was first announced in June, it does not cover Jobs's death in October.
& &The other comic came from Forbes. "The Zen of Steve Jobs" is a graphic novel that details Jobs's friendship with Zen priest Kobun Chino Otogawa and the influence the relationship had on Jobs's life and his work at Apple.
& &Jobs has also been immortalized as a bronze statue by software company Graphisoft which was unveiled in Budapest, Hungary last month.
& &Jobs passed away on Oct. 5. For more, see PCMag's look back at his life, as well as our Apple year in review.
