CHARDON, Ohio – Tuesday marked one month since the tragic Chardon High School shootings that took the lives of three students.
In Chardon Square, red ribbons and hearts still line the streets.
"The support you see makes it seem like it happened yesterday. But a month, that's a long time ago," said Jonathan Drews, who works in Chardon.
"Honestly, it feels longer than a month. Feels like a whole lot of time has passed between the shooting and now. You still can't really can't believe what happened," said Chris Klee, of Chardon.
"It feels like a long time because it's surreal. I think when things like this happen, it's like it's being played out in a movie that you don't think is really happening," added Linda Williams, who grew up in Chardon.
While time has passed, students and staff still remember Danny Parmertor, Demetrius Hewlin, and Russell King, Jr.
They've leaned on the arms of the community to heal.
"It's been a difficult time but it's been a time to realize what is really important and that is relationships with each other and helping each other get through," said Williams.
About 50 school officials and first responders will be honored Wednesday at the Statehouse.
But the people of Chardon have their own plans of appreciation for the first responders when they return with a hero's welcome in the parking lot of Walmart.
In one month, so much has changed yet stayed the same.
One town. But now, one heartbeat.
