Favors, Anderson, Thomas Chosen As Delegates To Democratic National Convention - 04/02/2012 on day true story
Three additional Hamilton County Democrats were selected by the Tennessee Democratic Party Executive Committee in Nashville on Saturday to represent the the state of Tennessee at the national convention in Charlotte on Sept. 3-7.
State Rep. JoAnne Favors, Chris Anderson and Taylor Thomas will join Joda Thongnopnua and Jan Brooks, who were elected at the district convention held March 24 in Anderson County and will become part of the 91 delegates and seven alternates representing Tennessee at the 2012 Democratic National Convention.
Rep. Favors was selected as a PLEO (Party Leaders & Elected Officials) delegate, while Mr. Anderson and Mr. Thomas were elected as at-large delegates.
Mr. Anderson said, "I am thrilled and humbled by the opportunity to cast a vote to renominate President Obama for another term. The convention will be the perfect place to showcase Democratic accomplishments in the last four years. There will be ample evidence that we are the party of economic prosperity, equality for all, and a safe, secure United States."
He is the Democratic State Committeeman for District 10, representing parts of Hamilton and Bradley Counties. In his role with the TNDP, he serves as chairman of the Delegate Selection Committee and co-chairman of the Affirmative Action Committee. He is the former National Executive Vice President of Young Democrats of America and has been active in politics since starting a Young Democrats chapter when he was a student at Red Bank High School. He has been involved in nearly 100 campaigns at the local, state, and national level. He works for the Bluff View Art District as the Food & Beverage Director.
Mr. Thomas is a Chattanooga native, currently a senior at UTC, studying English and minoring in political science. He is employed at the law offices of James, Goins, Carpenter, and Tidwell. He is also the current executive vice president of the Tennessee Young Democrats, and the former president of the Hamilton County Young Democrats.
Local Democrats were also in Nashville to celebrate the annual Jackson Day Dinner, where State Party Chairman Chip Forrester made a call for Democrats to unite and rebuild.
