The WWE declared they set a new attendance record for the Sun Stadium in Miami, Florida. Headlined by The Rock versus John Cena, Wrestlemania 28 drew over 78,000 hollering devotees to the stadium on Sunday evening.

Last year, Daniel Bryan and Sheamus were bumped off the Wrestlemania card. This year, the two men finally had their long awaited bout at Wrestlemania. And unlike last year, this year it was for Bryan's WWE Championship. As the two combatants readied themselves for action, Bryan got a good luck kiss from his valet. When he turned back around, Sheamus kicked him in the head and scored the three count. The confrontation lasted less than ten seconds. For supporters of both men it was a slap in the face. Fans paid to see the match and what they got was a few seconds of failed entertainment.

The Undertaker and Triple H certified to fans that, despite being in the twilight of their wrestling careers, they were still elite performers. The two older athletes waged war inside a steel cage structure known as "Hell in a Cell." WWE Hall of Fame member Shawn Michaels was the special guest referee. The Undertaker and Triple H used whatever tool was at their disposal, including the steel ringside steps and a sledgehammer. But The 'Taker kept his winning streak alive at Wrestlemania 28, by pinning Triple H after a Tombstone Piledriver.

I understand Wrestlemania is just as much about wrestling as it is about backstage skits and celebrity. But this year, Wrestlemania 28 included two mini concerts. One featuring a no identity rapper named Machine Gun Kelly, who looked like he should be entering rehab instead of a wrestling arena. The other rapper was the world famous Flo Rida, who initiated a song just before The Rock's entrance. Very rarely does wrestling and live musical acts mix. It's usually a disaster. These performances kept with that tradition.

The main event between The Rock and John Cena had a lot of hype to live up to. After all, it was being called the biggest match in Wrestlemania history since Hulk Hogan opposed Andre the Giant. But The Rock and John Cena rose to the occasion and put on a spectacular 30 minute main event match. The battle was filled with numerous close pinfalls and submission maneuvers, keeping the fans alive throughout the hard hitting classic. In the end, The Rock delivered a Rock Bottom to get the pin on WWE golden boy John Cena.

The wrestling world became the center of the sports universe this weekend when it was reported UFC champion Brock Lesnar was in Miami and would be making a surprise appearance at 'Mania. However, the night went along without an appearance or mention of the former WWE Heavyweight Champion.
Wrestlemania 28 may not go down in history as the best Wrestlemania of all time. I think, despite The Rock versus John Cena, the event was fun and entertaining, but it lacked the drama and suspense of past Wrestlemanias. But it was a great event nonetheless and certainly better than many of the lackluster 'Mania events from the mid 90s. I am looking forward to Monday Night Raw tomorrow night.
