'Swingers' swings onto Blu-ray -- and it's money, baby. Money. on day true story
Before there was a "Cowboys & Aliens, " before there was an "Iron Man" -- heck before there was really a Jon Favreau, as far as Hollywood was concerned -- there was "Swingers," director Doug Liman's surprisingly sweet guy drama that essentially introduced Favreau and wingman Vince Vaughn to Hollywood.
Tuesday (Aug. 23), it gets its Blu-ray debut in a release that is loaded with extras.
Favreau wrote the script and stars alongside Vaughn in a story about a group of aspiring actors in Hollywood that functions almost like a prequel to "Entourage." Between botched auditions, the boys play video games, swing dance at various Los Angeles clubs and commiserate over their sputtering show-biz careers.
They also spend a lot of time listening to Favreau mourn his recently ended six-year relationship. And for a movie that includes a memorable homage to "Goodfellas, " it's got a huge heart, not to mention crisp dialog and nonstop banter from Vaughn at his charming best. Even now, 15 years later, it's as good as you remember.
In other words, it's money, baby. Money.
