There's a new stop in Prague for contemporary art – Vernon Depot (U Pruhonu 22) has opened in the industrial-chic Prague 7 neighborhood of Holesovice. Part of the Vernon family of galleries, Vernon Depot will show works by the gallery's artists as well as a rotating schedule of exhibitions.

The original Vernon Gallery was in the director Monika Burian Jourdan's apartment since it opened in 2003.
"We are very excited; the artists need a place to present new work," she said. "And we felt like squatters in our own flat, never like it was ours."

Vernon also operates the Vernon Projekt, a window-shop exhibition space. It used to have another gallery space, but when the lease wasn't renewed, Ms. Burian Jourdan began looking in earnest for something new. The space, in a former warehouse, has a wall of windows, high ceilings and is big enough to be spacious, but not overwhelming. Holesovice, filled with disused factories and warehouses, is now finding new life as modern cafes, galleries and shops move in.

Vernon Depot will show seven exhibitions a year: two featuring its artists, two featuring international artists, one thematic exhibition, one dedicated to young Czech artists and one in conjunction with Tina B, the contemporary arts festival Vernon Gallery puts on every year. (Vernon Depot's inaugural exhibition will be part of Tina B. Next up will be an exhibition by American photographer Bill Owens in December.)

"With the new space I hope we'll bring a new air to the artistic scene," Ms. Burian Jourdan said.
