In the documentary "Journey of the Universe," author and evolutionary philosopher Brian Thomas Swimme starts on the Greek island of Samos — the birthplace of the mathematician Pythagoras — and talks about the Big Bang, the growth of the cosmos, and humanity's role in it.

The movie screens Thursday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. at the City Library auditorium, 210 E. 400 South, Salt Lake City.

After the screening, Swimme's co-writer and the film's executive producer, Mary Evelyn Tucker, will engage in a Q-and-A session, moderated by Utah author Terry Tempest Williams.

The event is presented by Williams, the Environmental Humanities Graduate Program at the University of Utah, and the Utah Film Center.

The screening is free to the public.
