2013 College Football: Weekly Recruiting Roundup March 30-April 5 on day true story
Thursday is when we look around the nation for some of the big news in the recruiting world here at Your Best 11. Since last week's update, we have plenty of new tidbits of information from a bunch of the nation's biggest schools. Southern Cal, Notre Dame, LSU and plenty more folks, so enjoy!
We'll kick things off with Oklahoma, a school that has not been tearing it up in the early going, but Bob Stoops has an eye for talent. He's kept the Sooners up in the top of the nation's recruiting wars, and while he lost out on Max Browne last night, he landed a running back for 2013 this week.
Greg Bryant is a tough running back from Florida, and Bob Stoops earned his commitment, giving the Sooners three for the 2013 cycle.
In keeping with the running back theme we've started here, check out Ohio State, as Urban Meyer is proving that he's got a little swag in the Midwest. Ezekiel Elliott committs to the Buckeyes with designs on starring in the backfield in Meyers' system.
Ohio State is also working to restock its defense, as Jayme Thompson, a defensive back from Ohio, elected to join the Buckeyes' 2013 class. Thompson was committed to West Virginia, but as Ohio State has proven recently, what Urban wants, Urban gets.
As far as defensive backs go, Devin Butler is the big news in South Bend, as he commits to the Irish. Notre Dame is definitely proving that it's going to recruit at a high level, and Brian Kelly, unlike Charlie Weis before him, is doing it on both sides of the ball. 2013 is shaping up to be a heck of a push for the Fighting Irish.
In the "schools that need good news" category, we've got Miami landing a Louisiana tight end. Standish Dobard picked the Hurricanes over hometown favorite LSU and some heavy hitters like Florida, Georgia and Auburn. For a school that has had some recent decommittments, this news is a big plus.
All is not lost for LSU, though. Although it lost out on Dobard, it helped itself to two more commitments for 2013. K.J. Malone, son of Karl Malone, committed to play offensive line for the Bayou Bengals. On the other side of the ball, defensive tackle Tevin Lawson pledged his allegiance to the Tigers over the weekend as well. Defensive end Michael Patterson also committed to give the Tigers three pledges over the weekend of their spring game.
Southern Cal draws the big news of the week, as it brings Max Browne, the nation's top-ranked quarterback, into the fold. Browne comes very highly touted out of Washington, and with Matt Barkley leaving after this 2012 season, the gate will be left open for competition.
Max Wittek and Cody Kessler have a couple of seasons of experience on Browne, but we shall see what happens when another top prospect hits campus. Lost in all of the Max Browne excitement is the fact that the Trojans added another member to their class, Chris Hawkins. Hawkins is a corner out of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and he'll be a great addition to the defense at USC.
As is always the case with these updates, be sure to take them with a grain of salt. We've got some 10 months before these coaches can put the proverbial ring on it by getting that faxed LOI.
