2012 UEFA Womenâs Champions League Final ticket sales launched â UEFA.com on day true story
The ticket sales for the UEFA Women's Champions League Final 2012 start today, Friday 23 March, at 16.00CET, via UEFA's official ticket sales partner for the final München Ticket at www.muenchenticket.de. The final will be played at Olympiastadion in Munich on Thursday 17 May at 18.00CET.
The 2012 UEFA Women's Champions League Final is the most important game in the European women's club competition calendar. Hosted in Munich, it will follow on from the unparalleled success of the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup last summer, also hosted by the DFB. Women's football has grown at an impressive rate both in terms of numbers of players and interest in the game.
Speaking at the launch press conference in Munich Giorgio Marchetti, UEFA's Director of Competitions, said: "UEFA is proud to stage the UEFA Women's Champions League Final for two of Europe's top women's football clubs to showcase their skill and dynamism on 17 May. The fans will be offered a unique celebration of football in a festive, family-friendly atmosphere. The UEFA Women's Champions League and the final as a highlight give women the opportunity to play in an elite competition against the best players in Europe."
Steffi Jones, the ambassador for the 2012 final and UEFA's Women's Football Development ambassador, said: "Club football is the basis for girls and women's development, giving young players something to aim for. The advances in both club football and UEFA Women's Champions League have become huge motivators for players. The matches are interesting increasing numbers of fans and this year we are looking to attract more supporters than ever, breaking the largest ever women's club final attendance record of 28,000. Mach mit!"
This year sees UEFA offer football fans a family-friendly event emphasised by an early evening kick-off time of 18.00CET and a ticketing structure designed to make the game accessible to all. With a family ticket, parents and their children can enjoy the biggest European women's club football match for just 20 EUR, while a group of 11 or more people pay just 5 EUR a piece for a group ticket. Ticket holders will also be able to travel free on the MVV public transport network in Munich, allowing them to move around the city at no extra cost.
Initially introduced as the UEFA Women's Cup, the UEFA Women's Champions League is the first, and currently sole, elite club competition for women's football in Europe. The inaugural season in 2001/02 saw 33 teams participate in the competition and the number of entries has increased over the years in line with the evolution of women's football with 54 teams entering this season's tournament.
