SEATTLE - August is usually our best chance for clear nights, and with it comes our best chance for seeing one of the largest meteor showers of the year.

The Perseid Meteor Shower is set to peak during the pre-dawn hours of tomorrow morning (Aug. 12). At its peak around 2 a.m., you'd normally see about 40-60 "shooting stars" per hour. As an added bonus, this year the moon will be in its new phase, meaning there won't be any moonlight to drown them out.

And even if you can't get up at 2 a.m., you can catch some of the show starting tonight around 10 p.m. low in the northeastern sky. The shooting stars won't be as often, but they could produce an occasional bright streak. The shooting stars will become more frequent as the night wears on.
