The Dreads traveled to Mt Pleasant this past Saturday and added another trophy by claiming the tournament championship with wins over Saginaw Heritage and Beal City.

The Dreads took game one from Saginaw 3-2 on a strong pitching performance by junior Brett Garwood. Garwood (1-0) pitched 5 innings of no hit ball before Heritage scored twice on 4 hits in the sixth. Bryce Walls picked up the save in relief.

Zack Byron, Hank Dreffs and Mike Mioduszewski led the offense with 2 hits a piece.

In Game two, junior pitcher Mackay Little (4-0) held state ranked Beal City to just two runs on five hits as the Dreads grabbed the championship 5-2. Dylan Pierce led the offense with three hits, while Zack Byron and Brett Garwood added two hits a piece.

Dexter is 22-7-1 (7-3 SEC) on the season.

Dreads fall to Saline

The SEC White Division leading Dreadnaughts traveled to SEC Red Division leading Saline for crossover action and came up just a little short last week.

The dreads struck first in game one when MacKay Little doubled home Hank Dreffs and Mike Mioduszewski to give the Dreads an early 2-0 lead. In the second, Greg Goffee knocked in Dylan Pierce to give the visiting Dreads a 3-0 lead.

The Hornets then pounded out three runs on three hits in their half of the inning to tie the game at 3-3.

The Dreads then took a 4-3 lead when Chris Zalucha doubled home Mioduszewski who had just doubled for his second hit of the day. Continued...

But Saline responded with three runs on two walks, a hit batter and a double, to take a 6-4 lead.

The Hornets hung on to win 6-5. Brennan Miasch (3-1) took the loss for Dexter.

"This was a tough loss," Dexter coach Don Little said. "Saline is a great program and we were ready to play them. Brennan had one tough inning and unfortunately we didn't recover from it."

In the second game, Saline won 5-3.

Dexter pitcher Dylan Pierce (2-2) took a 3-1 lead into the 6th inning, striking out 7 hornet hitters before Saline rallied for 4 runs on 2 walks, 2 hits and an untimely Dexter error, to steal game two back from the Dreads 5-3. Mioduszewski and Jake Stegemann had 2 hits for Dexter and Zack Byron added 2 RBIs.

Dreads split with Pioneer

The Pioneers scored 3 times in their half of the 5th to take a 6-2 lead and held of a late Dexter rally to grab game one from the Dreads 6-4. Joel Gowen (5-2) took the loss for Dexter pitching a complete game and allowing just 2 earned runs.

"We gave this one away," Little said. "Our defense just wasn't sharp. Joel gave us a chance to win, and we didn't help him out."

Dylan Pierce had two hits for Dexter.

The Dreads responded in game 2 with a 10 run first inning and score six more times to take a 16-1 win over the visiting Pioneers. Bryce Walls (6-0) took the win allowing just one run and striking out 2 in 3 innings of work. Zack Byron and Hank Dreffs had 3 hits each for Dexter, while Mike Mioduszewski, Brett Garwood and Taylor Schmidt added 2 safeties a piece. Continued...
