Joplin, MO Mihajlovic family set to move into new home a1 year after tornado on day true story

When ABCs Extreme Makeover: Home Edition filmed its last show in Joplin, MO volunteers built seven homes in seven days.
On the one year anniversary of the tornado KSPR News went back to check in on the most famous street in Joplin.
Extreme Makeover transformed Connor street in Joplin street and broadcast the results of Ozarks volunteers to the world.
It was supposed to serve as anchor housing, spurring more construction around it.   And that it has done.

Habitat for Humanity is sponsoring at least two new houses across the street and then there's the Mihajlovic house.

We met Monica Mihajlovic last October when she volunteered during the extreme build.

"The producers asked can we use your lot for the show and we said yes we can put off building for a couple weeks, she said.

At 5:41 Monica and her family toasted the moment they lost their house and stayed alive.

"I've seen a lot of healing," she said.   "I've seen a lot of what they call the miracle of the human spirit."

May 22 was already a special date for the Mihajlovics because it's a religious family holiday
that dates back 500 years.

But now they're looking forward to next month when they'll be in their new home.

"It's made us get to know our neigbors- we knew a few before but it's great to get to know them," she said.

The Mihajlovic family rebuilt on their original lot.    They are one of the few families on their street to do so.
