Dropkick Murphys: St. Patrick Day shows, new CD and Casey takes a swing in the boxing ring - Quincy, MA on day true story

The Dropkick Murphys released a new CD this week.

Because we all need a little more Dropkick Murphys in our lives ... It is St. Patrick's Day weekend, and, so that means the Quincy-based Irish punksters are more ubiquitous than ever. Here's what they've been up to this week:

Tonight is their second of three shows at the House of Blues in Boston. They'll play two shows on St. Patrick's Day at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell and come back to town for a Sunday show at the Brighton Music Hall.

Earlier this week the band released a new album – "Going Out in Style: Fenway Park Bonus Edition." It's comprised of 18 live tracks recorded last year at two Fenway shows. (Full list is below.) The double-disc collection also includes a download of the concert. Five-hundred limited edition vinyl copies of the "Going Out In Style: Fenway Park Bonus Edition" can be ordered at dropkickmurphys.com.

The music video for "Cruel" – featuring live footage from Fenway Park – is set to debut nationally on MTVu (the network's college channel) March 17.

Frontman

Ken Casey – formerly of Quincy and now lives in Hingham – is adding boxing manager to his resume. Casey will be managing Danny O'Connor, a junior welterweight from Framingham.

"In both boxing and music it's the fighters or the musicians that are traditionally the last to see the fruits of their labor and their careers often hang in the balance of someone else's hands like a record company or a boxing promoter," Casey said. "I took a hands-on, do-it-yourself approach with the Murphys and I see many similarities to how Danny's career path could and should go. I'm going to do my part to help him make that happen."

To introduce O'Connor, Casey scheduled a public-invited press conference at 5 p.m. Friday, March 16, at his Back Bay pub, McGreevy's Third Base Saloon on Boylston Street. Micky Ward will also be there, naturally.

There is no cover charge to get in. The press conference will be followed by a meet-and-greet with the band and the boxers. For more information, call 617-262-0911.

The band members are: Al Barr (lead vocals), Tim Brennan (guitars, accordion, whistle, vocals), Ken Casey (lead vocals, bass guitar), Jeff DaRosa (banjo, bouzouki, mandolin, harmonica, vocals), Matt Kelly (drums, vocals), James Lynch (guitar, vocals), and Scruffy Wallace (bagpipes, tin whistles).
