TAMPA -- Patric Young's right eye looked pretty bad.

Florida's 6-foot-9, 247-pound forward got poked while getting a rebound late in the first half. Nobody thought he'd be able to come back into the game against Wright State, especially after seeing how swollen and red it was in the locker room during halftime. But there was Young, checking into the game with 10:53 remaining.&

"I was [surprised Young came back into the game] because at halftime they said he was done," Kenny Boynton said after the Gators' victory in front of 6,331 at the St. Pete Times Forum. "But he gave us great energy when he came back."&

The double vision Young experienced after being injured cleared up early in the second half and UF coach Billy Donovan said he felt comfortable enough to let him return. Donovan said he doesn't believe Young's injury is serious and won't be a lingering problem heading into Friday's game against Jacksonville University.&

"They [the medical staff] didn't think it was anything too serious," Donovan said. "Before we went out there he felt like he was getting better but they did not want him playing until he could see better. I don't think it was anything major."&

While Young was out, the ninth-ranked Gators (3-1) used the four-guard lineup they debuted against North Florida last week. It's something Florida hopes to use more, and Boynton said the Gators still aren't completely comfortable with it.&

"Last game was our first time doing it," said Boynton, who along with Bradley Beal scored a team-high 22 points. "I think we're going to get better and better as the year goes on. If it's not me, somebody's going to get an open shot with the four-guard lineup."&

Player of the game: Boynton scored his 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting. He went 6 for 9 from 3-point range. He has scored at least 15 points in every game and is averaging 19.0 points per game. He is also shooting 50 percent from 3-point range (15 for 30).&

Stat of the game: Florida had 19 assists on 23 baskets. Donovan, however, wasn't overly happy with the Gators' ball movement. "We had some pretty good movement in the first half," Donovan said. "Then we got too predictable. We didn't move well enough in the second half. We were very easy to guard. Our spacing was OK. We held onto the ball too long."&

What did we learn: This isn't new, but it's a reminder of Florida's only deficiency. The Gators have few offensive options in the post outside of Young. When Young went to the bench after being hit in the eye late in the first half, the Gators couldn't get anything going inside. Young was only 1 for 5 from the field in the first half, but he had four rebounds and was a physical presence. Will Yeguete provided some good minutes and good rebounding, but he's nowhere near as physical as Young.&

Noteworthy: Wright State assistant coach Clayton Bates played at Florida from 1993-96. ... UF coach Billy Donovan now has 398 career victories. The Gators play Jacksonville on Friday at the O'Connell Center and Stetson on Monday in Orlando. ... Florida out-rebounded Wright State 35-24. The Gators have won the rebounding battle in each of their four games. ... Beal and Erving Walker were a combined 2 for 11 from the 3-point line. The rest of the team went 10 for 18. ... The Gators only made 10 of 18 free throws in the game's first 34-plus minutes but made 10 of 12 in the final 5:43.
