Forecast: Rain today, and a chance of rain for New Year's Eve on day true story
GRAND RAPIDS -- Any snowfall today will hit the ground as slushy snow mixed with rain. But that's all set to change this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
An arctic cold front will pass through West Michigan late Saturday night, bringing much colder air and a return to winter weather. Expect wind from Sunday morning through Monday. Wind chill temperatures will be in the teens and single digits Sunday night into Monday.
Lake effect snowfall also will ramp up Sunday afternoon and continue through Tuesday. The heaviest snow is expected to fall Sunday night and Monday. Combined with winds, visibility will be limited.

Today: Rain before 5 p.m., then rain and snow. Patchy fog after 10 a.m. High near 41. Calm wind becoming east northeast between 10 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Tonight: Snow, mainly before 7 p.m. Low around 30. North northwest wind between 5 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 42. Calm wind becoming south between 5 and 8 mph.
Saturday Night: A chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36. Breezy, with a south southwest wind between 11 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
New Year's Day: Snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 38. Breezy, with a west wind between 24 and 28 mph, with gusts as high as 39 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New snow accumulation of less than 1 inch possible.
Sunday Night: Snow showers. Low around 23. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New snow accumulation of around 3 inches.
